Tell Senators on the Finance Committee: Demand UnitedHealth Group Stop Delaying & Denying Care!
Chair Wyden, Ranking Member Crapo and Senators on the Finance Committee
Everyone should have the health care they need, when and where they need it. Yet too often, when people get sick, their private health insurance refuses to pay for their care. The largest health insurance corporation, UnitedHealthcare, is one of the worst actors when it comes to denying care. They reported $22.4 billion dollars in profits in 2023 alone! And they make most of their money off of our tax dollars through privatized Medicare and Medicaid.
People’s Action’s Care Over Cost campaign brought 100 people to meet with UnitedHealth Group executives to discuss our demands and they refused. Recently, UnitedHealth Group’s payment system was hacked and they stopped paying hospitals and doctors, so the U.S. Senate Finance Committee is calling in parent company CEO Sir Andrew Witty to testify. Paying their bills is important but we want to make sure that the senators also demand that Witty stop delaying and denying people’s care.
As one of our action participants, Bebhinn Francis with Citizen Action of New York, said, “Health care is a human right and we’re not gonna take it anymore. We’re here to fight.”
We need our elected officials to fight for us, too. Tell senators on the Finance Committee to ask Witty about UHC’s systemic delays and denials of care.

Everyone should have the health care they need, when and where they need it. Thank you for calling UnitedHealth Group CEO Sir Andrew Witty to testify before the Senate Finance Committee. Paying health care providers in a timely manner is essential. It is even more important UnitedHealthcare stop delaying and denying the health care that is agreed upon by a person and their medical provider. We urge you to demand that Witty and UnitedHealth stop seeking to override doctors’ and patients' determinations about the care they need.
UnitedHealth makes the majority of its health insurance profits from taxpayer dollars through Medicare and Medicare. Witty received a staggering $90 million in pay between 2018 and 2022. And yet the company lobbies for higher rate increases for its Medicare Advantage plans. We also urge you to question Witty about UnitedHealth’s stock buybacks, executive salaries, and shareholder payouts.
Sincerely,
