Tell State Sen. Flores to take real action on public health and Zika

State Senator Anitere Flores

As the Zika virus continues to spread in her own backyard, State Sen. Anitere Flores is nowhere to be found. Flores sits on the Senate Health Policy committee and has refused to address Miami’s public health crisis.

Miami has the highest rate of uninsured in the state and one of the highest rates of uninsured among any county in the country due to the legislature’s refusal to expand health care coverage to Floridians. During the 2016 legislative session, Sen. Flores and the Health Policy committee chose to defund Planned Parenthood – which provides important STD testing and treatment services – instead of closing the health care coverage gap. What's more, Flores has been a long-time leader in the effort to restrict access to reproductive health, even trying to amend the constitution to block access.

Sen. Flores is clearly more focused on her re-election campaign than her constituents' health. Tell Anitere Flores to get her priorities straight. This is about protecting our families and neighbors.

Why do you refuse to address Miami’s public health crisis and Zika? It is unacceptable that you are more focused on your re-election campaign than your constituents' health. This is about protecting our families and neighbors. The time is now for real action on public health in Miami-Dade.
