Tell the FCC: No Handouts for Big Wireless Companies

The Federal Communications Commission

Rural areas already have less access to high-speed networks, and a proposal under consideration at the Federal Communications Commission could make things even worse.

Non-union wireless companies like Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless want the FCC to help them boost their profits by making big cuts in the rates they are charged to connect cell phone towers to high-capacity data networks. But the reduced revenue for the telecom companies providing those connections would make it more difficult for telecom companies to invest in broadband networks, especially in rural areas. And less investment means fewer jobs.

Sign the petition to tell the FCC to protect investment in high-speed data networks and good telecom jobs.

I oppose the FCC’s plan to change Business Data Services rules to favor non-union companies like Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless over telecom companies that invest billions in high-speed networks and employ union workers. These changes would make it more difficult for companies to make investments in the infrastructure rural areas need to build strong economies.
