H.R. 4508 is set to eliminate the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, one of the most positive Republican initiatives of the Bush era.

This means that the EMTs, police officers, teachers, and social workers who sacrifice so much for the betterment of our communities will not have their student loans forgiven, after all. This is a blatant bait-and-switch tactic which will leave many of these individuals who were counting on these forgiveness programs, in the lurch. Despite working in lower-paying public service jobs, these individuals still have large amounts of student loans to pay off. It is not fair to pull the rug out from under these workers, who have dedicated themselves to public service.

We demand that you preserve the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program and vote against H.R. 4508, the Promoting Real Opportunity, Success, and Prosperity through Education Reform (PROSPER) Act and any legislation that is brought up that would undermine the ability for students to afford a college education.
