Tell VSB to Restore Living Wage!

Vancouver School Board

Last week it was announced that the Vancouver School Board was discontinuing its commitment to be a living wage employer.

This means a pay cut to workers who perform indispensable services to our local school system. These workers make sure students are fed and ready to learn, ensure our schools are clean and well maintained, and transport our children safely to and from school. Many will face a pay cut of up to 25% over the coming months. They deserve to be able to make ends meet, yet the VSB is picking their pockets to pad their budget.

If all this sound familiar, it's because the VSB is taking a page out of ABC's playbook. Mayor Ken Sim, and the ABC majority on Vancouver City Council, already cut the living wage for city employees back in 2023.

Vancouver School Board workers deserve a living wage.

A pay cut to workers who perform indispensable services to our local school system is unacceptable, especially during an affordability crisis. These workers make sure students are fed and ready to learn, ensure our schools are clean and well maintained, and transport our children safely to and from school. Many will face a pay cut of up to 25% over the coming months.

It is shameful for the VSB to pick the pockets of some of their lowest paid workers to pad their budget. I call on the VSB to reverse this cut and remain a living wage employer.
