We, the undersigned, are adamantly opposed to the City and Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. (“DTSM”) spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on extending a contract with Allied Universal Security Services (“Allied”) to provide supposed “unarmed security guard services at Santa Monica Downtown Parking Structures 1, 2, . . . 4, 5, 6, 9, and 10” between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. daily when we currently have no active visible Santa Monica Police presence. Allied has proven itself to be wholly ineffective in complying with its contractual duties to, amongst other things, provide a visible presence to discourage theft, vandalism, or unauthorized activity; respond promptly and appropriately to all security-related emergencies; ensure elevators and stairwells are clear and trash enclosures and storage areas are secured and unoccupied by unauthorized persons; notify law enforcement immediately of any unlawful activity; and otherwise helping restore safety to the Promenade, reviving businesses, and attracting patrons
We are petitioning the City and DTSM to immediately use those funds to contract with the L.A. County’s Sheriff’s Department to patrol and secure our streets, and/or conduct a competitive bidding process for alternative, preferably superior security services.
Thank you.
