Thank You Commissioners

Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners

Thursday 1/19, the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners voted to defer the dangerous and destructive Agrihoods application. This change to land use categories was an existential threat to our agricultural community and would have supercharged reckless sprawl. After meeting with almost every Commissioner, let's thank the Commissioners for following the facts, science, and established County processes and rejecting this poorly designed application.

Members of the Miami-Dade County Commission,

Thank you for rejecting the dangerous and destructive Agrihood application on January 19th. We know it is challenging to balance competing land use priorities, but this was a bad proposal to undermine our agricultural economy and fast-track sprawl in southern Miami-Dade, while sabotaging Everglades and Biscayne Bay restoration efforts. We applaud you for seeing through the marketing façade and we urge you to defer any other significant change to policy or areas currently dedicated to agriculture until the conclusion of the Agricultural Lands Study later this year.

Thank you again for your vote on the 19th, and we hope you will continue to prioritize our farming community and National Parks restoration efforts while holding the line on sprawl.
