Trans Idahoans Belong
Idaho Senate Judiciary & Rules Committee

Extremists are trying to criminalize medical providers for offering life saving, gender affirming care to transgender youth in Idaho. With a felony penalty looming over doctors heads, we have already seen the chilling effect this act of violence is having in other states. Even if a grace period is allowed, in other states where similar bills have been passed, doctors have frozen all care thus forcing transgender adolescents into unwanted phases of puberty and acting as a catalyst to devastating harm in those communities with unforeseen ripple effects.
Gender affirming care is always slow, methodical, includes numerous steps and it is backed, supported and recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Medical Association and other leading medical authorities- who have deemed it essential.
If HB71 passes into law it won’t just hurt transgender youth--your local physician, endocrinologist and other providers may also be serving trans youth. If they have to leave our state, their care goes with them, leaving our communities without physicians to treat kids with type one diabetes, asthma, and other ailments and basic care.
Idaho prides itself on being the flagship of parental rights to oversee the care and raising of your own children. This legislation flies in the face of those rights and creates a slippery slope and path for continued harm. Who’s to say what standard of care will be under attack next simply because a small group of lawmakers do not agree with it, today it is gender affirming care; tomorrow it could be cancer treatments. This is not a road Idaho should be going down.
Being a kid is hard enough, gender affirming care simply helps transgender youth put a pause on puberty while navigating their authentic selves. Losing access to puberty blockers and hormone treatment, all which are reversible, will put transgender youth at higher risk of depression, social isolation, self-hatred, self-harm, and/or suicidal thoughts or behavior.
The time is now for us to come together as Idahoans, as a community, to say enough is enough. Trans Idahoans have always been here and will always be here. Help us gather signatures from across the state, so we can show the Idaho legislature that there is overwhelming love and compassion and support for trans youth and trans Idahoans overall.
Idaho is for everyone.

Dear Senator,
I am gravely concerned about the impacts HB71 would have on our beloved state if passed.
If HB71 passes into law it won’t just hurt transgender youth. My (and your) local physicians, endocrinologists, and any other providers may also be serving trans youth. If they have to leave our state due to this bill, their care goes with them, leaving our communities without physicians to treat kids with type one diabetes, asthma, and other ailments and basic care. We need access to physicians, there is already a shortage.
Idaho prides itself on being the flagship of parental rights. This legislation flies in the face of those rights and creates a slippery slope of government overreach. Who’s to say what standard of care will be under attack next simply because a small group of lawmakers do not agree with it. Today it is gender affirming care; tomorrow it could be cancer treatments. This is not a road Idaho should be going down. Protect parental rights.
Being a kid is hard enough, let parents and medical professionals do their jobs. Politicians don’t belong at the kitchen table during private family discussions.
Please VOTE NO on HB71.
