Protect the UFCW Guild Contract

Marc Perrone, President of UFCW International Union

Protect the UFCW Guild Contract!

We, the UFCW International Guild staff, have been in contract negotiations with UFCW management for over a year and a half.

While we worked tirelessly at our jobs to ensure hazard pay, protect paid sick leave and to fight for safer conditions for the frontline workers we represent throughout the pandemic, management has proposed serious rollbacks in our sick leave and other benefits that protect the health and welfare of this hardworking staff.

In addition to the reduced benefits, management has decided to keep our wages low even as UFCW President Marc Perrone goes on national news to decry employers like Kroger for doing the same thing.

During our last session, management presented their “last, best and final” version of the contract effectively ending negotiations. They have also demanded that the Guild unit vote on "their" contract in two weeks, or our members risk losing retroactive pay. Essentially, asking Guild staff to vote on decimating our sick leave and other benefits during a pandemic!

The Guild unit feels UFCW management's proposals are unacceptable in their current form and that they should come back to he table to negotiate for a better contract that works for all of us!

Here’s what we are asking from UFCW management:

  • Protect existing sick leave – we are in a pandemic.

  • Establish necessary telecommuting policies – more than ever, a flexible workplace is critical to working parents at UFCW, but UFCW management wants to reduce telecommuting days.

  • Raise wages so they are comparable to the rest of the labor community. UFCW management’s proposed wage increases do not keep up with the cost-of-living index and inflation while at the same time holding an unfair wage structure (see below the disparity between raises from the guild versus raises for the managers).

We request your support.

Please tell UFCW leadership to raise wages and remove its restrictions on staff sick leave and telecommuting policies from the new contract. These policy changes discourage us from going to the doctor to keep us and our families healthy. They limit our ability to take care of our families. Flexible workplaces not only keep us safe in times like these, but they enable us to accomplish amazing things. It goes against what we fight for every day at our members’ workplaces.

So, we are calling on UFCW leadership to protect the conditions that allowed us to succeed all this time.

Add your name to our petition and tell President Marc Perrone and UFCW Leadership you stand with the hard-working staff at UFCW.

Dear President Perrone,

As a supporter of the UFCW Guild staff, I would like to request that you and UFCW Leadership come back to the table and negotiate for a fair and equitable contract that works for everyone. As this past year has proven, fair wages, adequate sick leave and flexible telecommuting help keep us all safe! Please reconsider your proposals and continue showing the UFCW Guild staff your commitment to better workplaces!
