Unite Against Book Bans
Governor Kim Reynolds & Iowa Republican Leaders
Banning books is censorship. Each parent should get to decide which books their child gets to read or not read.
School library book bans were at the forefront of the Republican agenda as conservative lawmakers pushed to censor books, claiming the material they find inappropriate for children should be removed from all schools.
The bad news: Book bans have already taken many popular titles off the shelves in Iowa schools, and created censorship while suppressing ideas and information including, erasing BIPOC and LGTBTQ+ history and characters.
The good news: New York Times bestsellers, John Green and Jodi Picoult, and the 1000s of trusted educators have joined the fight against book bans in Iowa. The major book publisher, Penguin Random House is joining the Iowa State Education Association (ISEA) to sue the state for the overreaching book ban law.

I am part of the majority of Iowans who oppose book bans in school libraries and classrooms.
Book bans are a form of censorship, suppressing ideas and information. Each parent or guardian deserves the right to decide which books their child gets to read or not.
Taking popular titles off library shelves in schools suppresses ideas and information including, erasing BIPOC and LGTBTQ+ history and characters.
Rather than this sweeping suppression of literature, we ask that you leave these books on shelves so students have access to a wide array of knowledge, ideas, stories, and literature, to support their academic and developmental success, sense of well-being and value, and protect their constitutional rights.
