United Airlines: Stop standing in the way of immigrant workers unionizing

Oscar Munoz, CEO, United Airlines

Approximately 95% of United Airlines catering operations employees are people of color, a majority of whom are immigrants from over 60 countries. United has attempted to intimidate and to silence those workers, and is choosing to treat them differently than other worker groups who have already formed unions at United.

Dear Mr. Munoz:

I support the nearly 2,800 workers in United Airlines Catering Operations Division. These workers make it possible for people like me to enjoy food and beverages inflight, and are an indispensable part of your airline’s passenger experience.

United has attempted to intimidate and to silence catering workers. Approximately 95% of catering operations employees are people of color, a majority of whom are immigrants from over 60 countries. That your company chooses to treat them differently than other worker groups who have already formed unions at United – an overwhelming majority of your frontline workforce -- is a shame. You have an opportunity to show that you care about ALL your employees.

I call on United Airlines to end the insults and threats to these hardworking catering workers, and let them exercise their right to vote.

Sincerely,
