Universal PreK for Minnesota's Children

Gov. Mark Dayton, Minnesota House, Minnesota Senate

Dear parents and educators,

The research is clear. There's no better return on education dollars than high-quality preschool.

Universal access to high-quality preschool, or pre-k,  is a crucial first step in addressing the equity gaps that plague Minnesota students. Research shows states that invest in such programs see immediate benefits like fewer students in need of special education services and educational remediation, and higher graduation rates.

Some argue that targeted programs like vouchers are a better way to close the opportunity gap than universal pre-k. But these programs all too often fail to reach their intended population. And low-income students do better in universal programs than their peers in targeted programs.

The time is now for universal pre-k in Minnesota.

Sign our petition and tell Gov. Mark Dayton and the Minnesota Legislature it's time to invest in real solutions that address the growing inequalities in our society and opportunity gaps in our schools!

Minnesota is currently sitting on a $900 million surplus. It's time to invest in real solutions that address the growing inequalities in our society and opportunity gaps in our schools.

Research shows there's no better return on education dollars than high-quality preschool. And universal pre-k is the best way to get the most Minnesota children ready for school, prepared to learn and on track to dramatic lifelong benefits.

I support quality preschool for every child in Minnesota -- not just those who can afford it. It's time to pass universal pre-k!
