Urge Governor Hochul to Reinstate the Mask Mandate on Public Transit!

By ending the mask mandate on public transit in New York and releasing signage that spreads misinformation about masks, Governor Hochul is undermining public health and equity, and putting millions of New Yorkers at risk.

Millions of New Yorkers rely on public transportation, particularly the communities who have been the hardest hit by COVID-19, including poor people, people of color, and disabled and immunocompromised people. No one should have to risk getting COVID-19 in order to get to work, or to access essential services like healthcare or groceries.

NY still has high COVID community transmission across the state. COVID rates are expected to rise further this fall and winter.

Science shows that mask mandates help prevent COVID-19 transmission and keep indoor spaces safe and accessible to everyone. And polls show that the majority of New Yorkers support mask mandates.

COVID-19 is not over. We urge Governor Hochul to reinstate the mask mandate on public transit.
