Utility Workers are First Responders.

State Legislatures

Wherever there’s a natural or man-made disaster, utility workers are on the scene alongside firefighters, law enforcement, paramedics, and other first responders amidst perilous conditions to mitigate these disasters.

Yet, our members often face roadblocks accessing a scene or procuring supplies they need to do their jobs during a disaster. Help recognize the essential nature of their work, and officially designate them as first responders.

Utility workers are on the scene when communities face crisis.

They often work in partnership with firefighters, law enforcement, paramedics, and other first responders amidst some of the most perilous conditions - hurricanes, floods, fires, dealing with the aftermath of natural and man-made disasters.

More recently, utility workers have been the unsung heroes of the pandemic - making sure that residents across the nation have access to safe water and gas while quarantining at home, while also providing the power needed to allow many to work from home, ensuring that life can continue as normal as possible despite the most trying conditions.

We ask you to recognize the essential nature of their work, and officially designate them as first responders.
