Veto Voucher Tax Credit Bill - HB 349
Missouri Governor Mike Parson
2021 Regular Legislative session has come to an end. Thank you to everyone who participated in our Virtual Capitol Action Conversations and communicated with their legislators.
Together we stopped six voucher bills (SB 23, SB 25, SB 30, SB 249, SB 251, HB 540), from becoming law. However, one tax credit voucher bill, House Bill 349 (HB349), is headed to the governor's desk.
HB 349 prioritizes funds for elite private schools over students in our local public schools. Historically tax credit vouchers only benefit elite private schools while providing tax breaks to corporations. Will you join me and other Missouri NEA members by signing on to our petition asking Governor Parson to veto HB 349.

Governor Parson, we believe every student should have access to a great public school regardless of zip code. The voucher tax credit in HB 349 prioritizes elite private schools over students in our local public schools.
HB 349 attempts to circumvent constitutional restrictions that prevent a legislature from appropriating funds to private and religious schools. HB 349 will reduce state funds that could be used for public education and other vital services and diverts those funds to private and home schools that are not held to the same standards as public schools.
We urge you to support local public schools and responsible budgeting by vetoing HB 349.
Thank you.
