Voter ID laws are racist and undemocratic

State lawmakers

Despite repeated Republican lies that voter ID is a common-sense measure to stop voter fraud, instances of voter fraud are nearly non-existent. Republicans rely on the fact that voter ID laws suppress voter turnout.

These laws target people of color, college students, low-income people, and senior citizens--groups quite likely to vote for Democrats and less likely to have ID that meets voter ID requirements.

Perhaps the most impacted population is African Americans. About 11% of eligible voters do not have current ID. Nearly 25% of African-Americans do not have current state-issued ID. Because they have such an impact on black voters, and intentionally so, these laws are not only partisan trickery, they are utterly racist.

Sign if you agree: We need to put an end to racist voter ID laws once and for all.

Voter ID laws are unnecessary and create barriers for many voters, especially African Americans. Repeal these racist laws now!
