We Demand Justice for Pamela Turner

City Attorney Ignacio Ramirez, Jr.

Last week while we were distracted with the shenanigans in Washington, DC, Pamela Turner, an African-American woman diagnosed with schizophrenia, was shot and killed by a police officer after a brief altercation in Baytown, Texas (town just outside of Houston). Ms. Turner’s family said she was not violent and was picking up trash in her neighborhood, something she was known to do, when she was confronted by a white police officer. WE CAN joins Ms. Turner’s family seeking justice for Pamela and asks that you send a letter to Baytown’s City Attorney Ignacio Ramirez, Sr. demanding a thorough investigation of the incident. #SayHerName should have been retired a long time ago, but until women of color are no longer victimized in state sanctioned violence, WE CAN will continue to demand justice!

Dear Mr. Ramirez:

I became aware of the officer-involved shooting that led to the death of Pamela Turner and I want you to know the country is watching your handling of the case.

As a concerned citizen tired of police officers getting away with killing Black women, I demand that you ensure a thorough investigation of the incident takes place and if the officer is found to have conducted himself illegally, that you use the full powers of your office to see that Ms. Turner's family receives justice.

Thank you in advance for doing what you swore to do when you took office which is to "...preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States and of this State, so help me God."

Sincerely,
