We need more NHS dentists in Norwich!
Norwich City Council, NHS Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board
Green Party research has shown that no dentist is taking on new NHS patients in Norwich. We are petitioning Norwich City Council to lobby the NHS Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board, and the government and come up with a plan to address this issue.
We were dealt yet another blow when the news came that MyDentist in Barrack Street will cease to offer NHS treatment from October, forcing all existing patients at the practice to seek a new NHS dentist surgery.
The NHS' Find a Dentist website says that there are no dentists in Norwich accepting a new NHS patients. The website says that the closest dentist accepting new NHS patients is 17 miles away in Beccles, Suffolk but even there, they are only accepting patients under the age of 17.
The entry for some dentists in Norwich is “This dentist surgery has not given a recent update on whether they are taking new NHS patients. You can contact them directly to ask.” but reports from numerous residents tells us that these practices are not accepting new NHS patients.
Some dentists have an entry saying that they will accept NHS patients by referral. This is for specific services like sedation so a treatment can be carried out. These dentists are not accepting new NHS patients for checkups and other treatments.
Norwich has become a dentist dessert forcing people to choose between expensive private services, or not having treatment at all. During a cost of living crisis, this cannot go on. People are being left in pain having to foot eye-watering bills for services they should be entitled to on the NHS.
Sign our petition to urge Norwich City Council to lobby the government and the Integrated Care Board to urgently put together a plan to tackle this!

Norwich is a dental desert. Too many Norwich residents can’t get an NHS dentist.
People are left in pain or if they can afford it having to pay a large private dental bill in a cost of living crisis. Children and others entitled to free dental care aren't able to get it.
This Conservative government has been asleep at the wheel over NHS dentistry.
We want Norwich City Council to lobby the NHS Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board and government to come up with a plan to tackle the dental desert that Norwich has become.
