We Need Your Leadership to Ensure a Place in San Francisco for Public School Educators

Interim Superintendent Leigh and members of the San Francisco Unified School District Board of Education,

The affordability crisis is pushing San Francisco teachers and paras out of the city, destabilizing our schools and impacting our students' education. UESF will sit down for a meet and confer on wages with the SFUSD starting on October 27th. Please sign the petition below to the leadership of the district letting them know how important it is that they offer a serious wage increase at the table in order to address the growing crisis in our schools.

To: Interim Superintendent Leigh and members of the San Francisco Unified School District Board of Education,
From: [Your Name]

In order for our students to receive the highest quality public education, we need stable, safe, and fully supported school communities. In order to succeed, these stable schools must be built upon the foundation of educators who live in the communities we serve.

Unfortunately, the unprecedented affordability crisis is pushing too many excellent teachers and paraprofessionals out of San Francisco, creating a massive turnover crisis that is destabilizing our schools.

Without immediate action this crisis will only continue to undermine our schools and our students, particularly those from low-income and immigrant families who have been hit hardest by the growing economic divide in our City and who need stable school communities now more than ever.

To meet this crisis head on, the SFUSD must prioritize the work in the classroom.

In October 2016, the district will sit down with UESF leadership to meet and confer on a wage increase. We call on you, the leaders of the San Francisco Unified School District, to invest in those who do the work and find the resources necessary to offer a serious wage increase.

The time to act is now. Without your leadership, our schools and our students will continue to be in jeopardy.
