We Stand with Veteran, Frances Santiago, for the Freedom to Fly the Puerto Rican Flag in her Home

Rolling Hills Estates HOA President, Norma McNerney

The Homeowners Association of Rolling Hills Estates in Kissimmee is trying to force Frances Santiago, an Army veteran who spent 14 years as an Army medic, to remove her Puerto Rican flag from the front of her home. After two tours in Iraq, she has more than earned the freedom to fly the flag of her choice at her home.

You can help Frances uphold her right as an American citizen to fly her flag and proudly display her Puerto Rican roots. The Association is trying to intimidate her and her family saying that she cannot fly the Puerto Rican flag because of a clause in the bylaws that requires Board approval for all flags and signs. The board has approved US flags, sports team flags, and flags honoring our police but they REFUSE to approve Puerto Rican flags.

To support Frances Santiago, sign this petition asking Rolling Hills Estate HOA President Norma McNerney to cease their discriminatory practices against a Puerto Rican U.S. Citizen and veteran of the US Armed Forces, Frances Santiago.

According to the report in the Sentinel,

“I fought for our [country], to be able to do this. So, I don't see a problem with flying my flag here,” Santiago told WFTV.

Rolling Hills Estates HOA President Norma McNearny,

I stand in full support of Frances Santiago, an Army veteran who spent 14 years as an Army medic and after two tours in Iraq, has more than earned the right to fly the flag of her choice at her home.

The Rolling Hills Estates HOA is discriminating against U.S. citizens born in Puerto Rico by not allowing her to fly the Puerto Rican flag in front of her home. Please stop your discriminatory practices and honor Santiago’s service to this country and to the island where she was born, an island that is an American Territory.
