We Want Stricter Compliance Codes for MREs and UAPRs in San Antonio |Queremos Códigos de Cumplimiento Más Estrictos para las MRE y las UAPR en San Antonio
MRE and UAPR Taskforce
(Español abajo)
The City of San Antonio recently created a new task force to rewrite and update the current code compliances for MREs (Metal Recycling Entities) and UAPRs (Used Auto Parts Recycling) after a 10 hour long fire at Monterrey Iron and Metal prompted District 5 Councilwoman Teri Castillo to send in a request.
The last time the codes were updated was 12 years ago in 2012. Since then there have been many technological advances, including the widespread use of lithium batteries, and we think the codes need to reflect these advances.
These recycling plants are sources of pollution-especially for the neighboring residential areas. During the recycling process heavy metals, such as nickel, cadmium, and cobalt, are released into the air. These heavy metals are linked to several health hazards to humans including: lung fibrosis, headaches, and gastrointestinal issues.
Tell the MRE and UAPR Taskforce that you want stricter codes written for these types of recycling plants!
The taskforce meetings are open to the public and allow for public comment. If you are unable to make it to a meeting, email MREUpdate@sanantonio.gov

I am signing this petition because I want you to include stricter compliance codes for Metal Recycling Entities (MREs) and Used Auto Recycling Plants (UARPs) in San Antonio.
