We the undersigned CCS parents and caregivers pledge that our kids will not cross the picket line if CEA teachers are on strike on August 24th.
We are angry and fed up! On Tuesday August 16th, the Columbus Board of Education voted to use federal covid-relief funds to provide bonuses to virtual substitute teachers who agree to cross the CEA picket line. Rather than returning to the bargaining table to come to an agreement with Columbus teachers, it appears that our school board intends to attempt to break the strike with “asynchronous” virtual learning. This is unacceptable, and shows that our school board is out of touch with what Columbus students deserve!
We want our kids to be taught by their CEA teachers, not watching recorded videos!
For far too long, our schools have been underfunded, and our buildings in desperate need of repairs, while our city’s leaders turn a blind eye handing out tax breaks to developers and corporate interests. CEA is standing up for our kids, and if CEA teachers go on strike, we will support them.
We pledge not to cross the virtual picket line, and we want the Columbus Board of Education to know that in the event of a CEA strike, our kids will not be logging in to virtual school on August 24th. We respect that this is not possible for every parent, but we encourage you to show your support for our teachers however you can.
We love our Columbus City Schools, and we stand with Columbus teachers, our fellow parents, and all community members who have the best interests of our kids at heart. We support CEA’s demands, and we urge the Columbus Board of Education to return to the bargaining table so that our kids can start school with their teachers!
If you don’t come to an agreement, our kids will not be logging on.
The undersigned Columbus parents & caregivers,
