What Changed?

Suzann Morris, OCDEL Deputy Secretary

CCPU, the union that represents in-home child care providers has been meeting with your designated representatives for several months. The teams met on multiple occasions and AGREED to a $2 per child/ per day rate increase. Our hope was that it could be included in next year’s budget and that we would work to ensure funding. That was the plan until you decided that it was not!

As providers, parents and concerned citizens we are astonished to hear this happened. This is unacceptable! In-home Providers deserve to be RESPECTED and telling them one thing then deciding something else is not respect.

We ask you to keep your word and do what's right for hardworking and highly dedicated providers. These folks don’t just babysit kids, they educate and nurture children while their parents are working hard to provide for their families and contribute to economy of this great state. Providers offer a lifeline to parents who would not otherwise have childcare options because they work non-traditional hours or can’t afford the cost of child care centers. These providers have not seen an increase in more than 10 years. All we ask is to be able to afford to continue doing this critical work for Pennsylvania families.

Will you stand with us by honoring your commitment to work with us and provide a sorely-needed rate increase?
