Withdraw Blanket Labour Funding

Sharon Graham, Unite General Secretary

Labour are on for a massive landslide but, as a whole, they're no longer a pro-worker party.

Members money should be used to support a real New Deal For Working People, not Labour's Bad Bosses Charter.

Withdraw blanket funding from the Party and instead back pro-worker candidates on an individual basis.

At the Clause V meeting on June 7th, Unite the Union took the principled stance of not endorsing Labour's manifesto. This was on the basis that their 'New Deal For Working People' had been watered down to little more than a 'Bad Bosses Charter'.

We know with 4 years of evidence that this will be rowed back on even further. We simply can't trust anything Keir Starmer says as he repeatedly goes back on his word and we can't really know what he'll do in power.

The only way we can be sure of having influence over policy is by backing individual candidates who we can trust to actually stand by workers.

Labour are 20 points ahead in the polls. They're on track for a massive landslide which means we can exert influence without fear of letting the Tories in.

Members' money should be going to improving the lot of workers across the economy. We should not be funding another party on the side of bad bosses

We are saying:
• Withdraw blanket funding for the Labour Party entirely.
• Fund individual Labour MPs / candidates who have a track record of genuine commitment to workers' rights and also to electoral reform so we're not stuck in this situation forever.
• Consider support for pro-worker candidates from other parties, such as the Greens.
