Beyond Lesser Evils: Rethinking the Importance of Elections with Author & Professor August H. Nimtz

In a world saturated with declarations that every election is the most crucial one, and admonishments against voting for third-party candidates, Professor Nimtz challenges these narratives. Is it truly throwing away one's vote to support a candidate aligning with our convictions? Does consistently opting for the "lesser evil" perpetuate a race to the bottom in our political landscape?

In this engaging discussion, Professor Nimtz, a distinguished political scientist and author of "The Ballot, The Streets, Or Both?" from Haymarket Books, navigates the historical context of the Russian Revolution. Drawing insights from Marx, Engels, and Lenin, he examines their perspectives on electoralism and applies these analyses to the contemporary political climate.

What role do elections play for the revolutionary left? How can we participate in electoralism without succumbing to what Professor Nimtz terms "electoral fetishism"? Addressing concerns about the "lesser evil" and "spoiler" phenomenon, we explore the possibility of building a party for the working and oppressed classes without falling prey to opportunism or distractions of the bourgeoisie.

Embark on a journey through history as he draws lessons from the European Revolutions of 1848, the Paris Commune, the Russian Revolution, and other pivotal moments in the pursuit of revolution. These are just a few of the thought-provoking questions and themes that will be explored in this enlightening event with Professor August H. Nimtz.
