Call Congress: Free Leqaa Kordia from ICE detention now!
Last March, Leqaa Kordia, a 33-year-old Palestinian woman from New Jersey, was unlawfully detained by ICE for her participation in anti-genocide protests near Columbia University. This is a deeply personal struggle for Kordia; Israel has killed nearly 200 members of her family in its genocidal war on Gaza.
Despite the significant deterioration of her health over the past 11 months in custody, including a recent hospitalization, ICE has continued to hold Leqaa in a Texas detention facility 1,500 miles away from her family.
During her time in the hospital, Leqaa was shackled by metal chains on her arms and legs. In a statement on her hospitalization, Leqaa said, “It was terrifying. I felt like an animal.” Now back in ICE custody, she still bears the marks of the heavy metal on her body.
An immigration judge has twice ruled that Leqaa is releasable on bond. Every moment of inaction increases the risk to her life, and urgent intervention is required.
Take 3 minutes now to call your Senators and Representatives in Congress and tell them to demand that Palestinian political prisoner Leqaa Kordia be immediately released from ICE detention.
