The Senate’s SAVE America Act (S.1383) carries on the egregious legacy of the stalled SAVE Act (H.R.22) and its promotion of a “show your papers” authoritarian mandate.

Don’t let the name fool you; the SAVE America Act is a bad voter suppression bill that is part of the Administration’s broader push to give the federal government control over elections--and prevent eligible Americans from voting. And it’s not all they are trying. Other attempts they have planned include ceding control to Republicans to run elections in 15 key states, giving the Department of Homeland Security more access to private voter data, and exposing election workers to the threat of criminal and civil penalties, including jail time.
