Teamsters: Call on Your City Councilmember to Pass the Delivery Protection Act
Amazon’s anti-worker practices put UPS and other union carriers at a competitive disadvantage. This risks a race to the bottom that threatens good union jobs throughout our entire industry.
For over a year, Teamsters and their allies have been pushing the New York City Council to pass The Delivery Protection Act, a bill from Councilmember Tiffany Caban that would end Amazon’s corrupt third-party Delivery Service Partner model and make New York City neighborhoods safer.
The bill would require all last mile delivery companies, including Amazon, FedEx and UPS to license their facilities, hire workers directly, and be responsible for any accidents that occur in their vehicles. The Teamsters already hold UPS to these responsibilities and the DPA will give an added enforcement arm to New York City. While a majority of the City Council supports the legislation, Amazon is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on a misinformation campaign to sway the City Council and the public.
It’s time to show Amazon what it means for New York City to be a union town. Make a difference by using the instructions and script below to contact a New York City Councilmember and let them know they need to support The Delivery Protection Act!

Good morning/afternoon/evening, my name is [Name], I live in [neighborhood] and I am a member of Teamsters Local 804.
I am calling to urge the City Council to support New Yorkers and stop Amazon’s abuse by passing the Delivery Protection Act.
Amazon and other companies are avoiding accountability by falsely claiming their employees work for subcontractors. As a UPS Teamster, I have a good middle-class career with high wages and excellent benefits, but most Amazon drivers who do the same job as me make nearly half of my salary with little to no benefits whatsoever. This is creating a race to the bottom in the package delivery industry and it threatens to erode the stable middle-class livelihoods that my coworkers and I fought so hard to secure.
Furthermore, my heart breaks when I see workers in New York City struggling to make ends meet while Amazon makes trillions off their backs and denies responsibility for their safety and the safety of the neighborhoods they deliver to.
The Delivery Protection Act is common sense legislation to protect neighborhoods, protect workers, and makes Amazon pay its fair share. I’m counting on you to stand up to corporate pressure and show Amazon that it can’t treat our city with disrespect any longer.
Thank you.
