Call Congress to Oppose an AI Regulation Ban

This summer, Congress attempted to bury a dangerous provision in what some lawmakers called the "Big Beautiful Bill." The provision would ban most states and localities from regulating AI. Thankfully, Senators Blackburn, Cantwell, and others led the challenge of this provision in the Senate, generating a historic 99-1 vote to strike the 10-year ban. The provision did not make it into the House's version of the budget bill and was successfully blocked from being included in the Big Beautiful Bill.

But the ban could still be resurrected by Congress. Reports indicate that House Leadership is interested in jamming through a similar provision in this year's National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) package that would prevent states from protecting their citizens from emerging AI risks, leaving families and communities vulnerable. States should retain the right to protect their citizens from potential AI-related harms, especially given what we've learned from social media's impact on young people when oversight was lacking.

Urge Congress to oppose an AI regulation ban in the NDAA.
