Action Against Assaults

RMT’s Action Against Assaults campaign aiming to tackle the unacceptable extent of violence and abuse faced by public transport workers.
As part of the campaign, we are seeking stronger legal protections through the creation of a specific offence of assaulting a public transport worker. We believe this is necessary for a number of reasons including that it will deter perpetrators, make it more likely that cases will be prosecuted and demonstrate that the Government takes the issue of violence against public transport workers seriously.
We are calling on the Government to create this standalone offence via an amendment to the Crime and Policing Bill, which is currently making its way through Parliament. We are asking MPs and Peers to sign an open letter to the Government urging them to do this.
