Ask City Council to Pass a Ban on Pet Rental Fees
We are calling our you to support CB 121254, an ordinance that would prohibit landlords from imposing 'junk fees', including pet fees (with the exception of potential pet damage deposits). In our current housing and job market crisis, it is emotionally tasking and stressful to ask families to sudden dish out funds or choose between housing and their companion animals. The money for pet rental fees could cover completely cover the cost of the food for the pet. We should not be placing financial burdens on owners who are giving animals a loving home. Under this proposed ordinance, pet fees would be outlawed in Seattle.
Pets are family, they are companion, they make a home for the two-thirds of Washingtonians that have pets. Statewide pet-friendly housing would alleviate families of further financial burden, reduce pressures on local animal shelters, and keep families together.
Seattle Residents: We need you to testify at the city council meeting on Tuesday, August 11th at 2pm and ask the council to pass the ban on pet rental fees. Sign up asap: https://seattle.gov/council/meetings/public-comment
