Central Branch LAUSD Strike Support
After over a year at the bargaining table, Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has still not come to an agreement with the United Teachers of Los Angeles (UTLA) and SEIU 99. The demands of the education workers center around being able to afford to live in Los Angeles, improving classroom conditions and student:counselor ratios, and protecting our immigrant students. The district has over $5 billion in reserves and has spent over $10 billion in outside private contracts over the last four years and will not bring a real deal to the table for the 70,000 educators who are walking out.
How Do We Show Up?
Historically socialists have been leaders in and some of the key supporters of the labor movement and strikes; we know that, as workers, we have the power to shut down the economy when we withhold our labor and we want to support striking workers when they take that risk.
