The Problem

For many Coloradans, health insurance and the cost of prescription medication continue to be unpredictable and unaffordable. Two-thirds of Coloradans are not confident they can pay for their usual health care needs under their existing insurance coverage and the 2021 Colorado Health Institute Health Access Survey found 1 in 5 Coloradans skipped health care due to concerns related to cost, including not going to the doctor or filling a prescription.

The Solution

Whether it is for an unforeseen medical event or managing a chronic condition, Coloradans should be able to count on their health care coverage being there when they need it. This year, Colorado’s legislature has the opportunity to make health care coverage more affordable and dependable by lowering the cost of prescription medicine at the pharmacy counter, ensuring patients get the treatment recommended by their doctor – not their insurance company, and enacting fair, common-sense reforms on health insurance companies.
