May Day Events

Join us in Action and Celebration!

May Day is International Workers’ Day, and the Western Montana DSA and allied organizations are hosting activities all weekend. Friday May 1st, 2026, will be a Workers Over Billionaires national day of action in conjunction with the national coalition May Day Strong.

Across the country we are standing up and demanding:

  1. Tax the rich so our families, not their fortunes, come first.
  2. ICE Out. No war. No private army serving authoritarian power.
  3. Expand democracy, not corporate power. Defend free and fair elections.

It's up to us to organize and act together! When the demands are not met, we don’t continue business as usual.

That’s why on May 1 thousands are calling for:

  • NO SCHOOL
  • NO WORK
  • NO SHOPPING
  • NO WAR
  • NO PRIVATE ARMY SERVING AUTHORITARIAN POWER
  • EXPAND DEMOCRACY

WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO SIGN THE MAY DAY STRONG PLEDGE TODAY!

Unfamiliar with May Day?

Many think of May 1st as a celebration of Spring's peak, filled with flowers, dancing, and community. But for over a century, it has also served as International Worker's Day, a holiday celebrated around the world to honor the labor movement and the fight for fair wages, reasonable hours, and worker's rights. Rooted in the 1886 Haymarket Affair in Chicago, May 1st has become a powerful symbol of collective action and solidarity, from union rallies to marches for economic and social justice.

Today, May Day has evolved into something broader: a hybrid of protest and party, purpose and play. Alongside picket lines and political speeches, you'll find block parties, live music, family-friendly picnics, and neighborhood socials. It's a day to stand up for what you believe in and to connect with others over food, art, and conversation. Whether you come to take action or just to mingle, May Day is a reminder that building a better world can also mean having a good time together!
