OUR CALLING IS MAKING A DIFFERENCE!
In addition to mobilizing voters of color in North Carolina Congressional District 03, we are catalyzing some unexpected outcomes. I just heard back from someone we met through our calling who said two local conservative women just resigned their Party positions and committed to voting for the progressive candidate because the conservative candidate was not supporting issues that mattered to their communities.
That's how it works!
We call people, they talk to all sorts of other people about how voting can help their communities, minds change and people take action. Despite North Carolina's ugly history of voter suppression, community of color voters take action when they get the information they need -- and they know how to talk to their communities!
But North Carolina voters of color don't get much support
So, we're calling 65,000 people in NC Congressional District 03 to tell them how, when and where to vote in the upcoming Special Election. Because NC 03 averages only 1-3 polling places per county (compared to 4-7 in other districts), we're helping people engage in Early Voting.
We're partnering with the Reclaim Our Vote Campaign, which also partners with the NAACP to access well targeted lists and an excellent online calling system. The script is easy and provides information tailored to EACH voter. Our phone bank hosts are experienced and fun.
Phone banks are the second prong of Reclaim Our Vote's strategy, following on intensive postcard writing effort, earlier this summer. We'll provide both information and encouragement -- and, in the process, we will help build the base for 2020 elections!
