What is a Cohort?

Members joining during a three month period will be invited to join a cohort of new members to go through a set of meetings and curriculum to increase retention, development, and engagement with the chapter. These events and meetings will encourage new members to have a fuller understanding of DSA, organizing as socialists, and how to be involved in Oklahoma City DSA.

What does a Cohort entail?

In addition to the initial Onboarding Meeting that new members must attend prior to joining the discord, the cohort will be a 6 week commitment featuring
  • In-person kickoff event
  • Hybrid political education meetings and discussion events
  • In-person celebration social event

What is expected of Cohort Members?

  • Commit to attending all the events. If a member cannot attend all the events, it is recommended they join a different cohort with a more available schedule. Unexpected absences should be alerted to the cohort team, and more than two unexcused absences will result in a recommendation to join a future cohort.
  • Use Discord for keeping in touch with the cohort. This will help socialize our communications platform and familiarize new members. A Discord channel has been created for Cohort Program communications, and threads can be made for each cohort wave as needed.
  • Be open to learning and discussing topics. We hope members in our chapter are willing to have good faith discourse, and that requires social practice for people to develop this skill internally and among each other. All chapter events are covered by our standards in chapter bylaws and code of conduct.
At the completion of the cohort, we will have a social event to celebrate our new members.
