Save OUR hospital - Save Lives NOW!

In the aftermath of the closure of Christ Hospital, the Save OUR hospital - Save lives NOW! coalition is a group of concerned citizens and local organizations working to ensure that the health and safety of  Jersey City residents and the Jersey City Heights community are prioritized, including every person, family and neighborhood. We demand every elected official takes action to:

  • Immediately protect the healthcare needs and interests of the residents of Jersey City and the Heights in particular;
  • Prioritize establishing a broad range of accessible, affordable healthcare services on the Christ Hospital campus;
  • Acquire land and physical properties in the Medical District at 176 Palisade Avenue and surrounding medical facilities.
  • Place the existing hospital in temporary receivership to ensure, at minimum, access to emergency medical services.
  • Conduct a Community Health Needs Assessment to determine which medical and other health care services should be provided to improve access to care, while ensuring the long term viability of the hospital, as an acute care facility;
  • Identify and recruit a reputable public or non-profit operator who will commit to providing comprehensive healthcare services, including maintaining an emergency room, and ensuring essential hospital, behavioral health, mental health and other necessary medical services;
  • Support these efforts to ensure that Jersey City has adequate hospital services at this location to protect our community during emergency situations, just as the prior hospital provided during moments of extreme crisis – 9/11, Superstorm Sandy, COVID. This hospital must be preserved in order to ensure our community is adequately prepared for any future environmental disasters, climate change catastrophes, or pandemic outbreaks; and
  • Support these efforts to ensure that Jersey City has medical and hospital services at this location that are currently not adequately provided elsewhere in the City and immediate environs.
