Help Wales find its wild side – show your support for rewilding in Wales in this crucial election

The ballot boxes open on 7 May and the polls are predicting an unprecedented change in the make up of the Government in Wales. Decisions about nature on land and at sea - and who is given a voice in these discussions - are devolved to the Senedd.

We’re seeing growing support for rewilding across Wales from communities, landowners and decision-makers. Too often nature is seen as a nice to have. We’re all part of nature and when it thrives, so do we, but it needs the space and time to restore itself.

Rewilding as a solution

Targets, pledges and frameworks have been laid out by the Welsh Government, but we have failed to see meaningful progress to reverse the loss of nature and regenerate our land and seascapes. Less than 3% of land and around 3% of our seas have been assessed and deemed to be in good condition for nature. These are our life support systems and they’re under pressure.

To reach the target of 30% of our land and sea being for nature and rewilding, we will need to use the full toolbox of approaches. Rewilding has a track record of rapidly and powerfully bringing nature back, enriching people’s lives as they access more nature and creating jobs which benefit our communities building new economies around nature. Diverse land and sea, diverse nature, diverse people, diverse economy.
