Stop Elkridge Detention

In winter of 2025-2026, a private company called Genesis leased a property at 6522 Meadowridge Road, Elkridge, Maryland, 21075, to the Department of Homeland Security for use by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. They planned to use this facility as a detention center and administrative office. Howard County government revoked their permit in February, which Genesis then sued the county over, which went to the federal court in Baltimore that finally issued a preliminary injunction, ordering the county to restore the permit on the basis of "discrimination" and the Federal Constitution's "Supremacy Clause".

Since prior to the lawsuit, Genesis changed the formal purpose of the site to be only an office, with a small holding area for victims being processed for transport to official detention centers, immigration court, or deportation. DHS stated they intended to shift its operations at the George H. Fallon building in Baltimore to this new Elkridge facility, as the Fallon facility had a troubled record for abusive, overcrowded, long-term imprisonment of its victims despite only being authorized as temporary holding (as with in Elkridge.) Howard County officials have appealed the preliminary injunction.

Whatever happens in the courts, our neighbors in Howard County do not want this facility that we know will be used for illegal, crowded conditions that will burden the consciences and environmental, as well as financial, conditions of the surrounding area. Maryland Coalition to Stop the Camps partners in Howard County are building a resistance on the ground to STOP ELKRIDGE DETENTION.
