- Remind them that the current eviction moratorium means that they still owe the rent when the moratorium ends.

- Tell them how they can get involved in fight to demand the Governor Murphy Suspend Rent Now! We need to collect stories from New Jersey tenants about how COVID is affecting our ability to pay rent. Use this script and enter the information here.

An eviction moratorium was the right first step, but we need to go further. We demand the following, immediately:

1- RENT AND UTILITY SUSPENSION NOW: Governor Murphy has already suspended mortgage payments for three months and the next step must be to suspend rent and utility payments.

2- EXTEND EVICTION/FORECLOSURE MORATORIUM AND REMOVE LOOPHOLES: Tenant/Landlord court is temporarily closed and there is an eviction moratorium for two months after the state of emergency, but Governor Murphy must extend the eviction moratorium and remove the loopholes (including a moratorium on filing/initiation of eviction proceedings, any and all late fees, etc).

3- RECLAIM OUR HOMES: We need safe homes and services for people currently experiencing homelessness. New Jerseyans who are living shoulder to shoulder in shelters are at very high risk of COVID-19.

4- INVEST IN HOMES FOR ALL: Finally, we need to robustly fund and administer a permanent rental assistance program for all New Jerseyans, regardless of documentation status.

Una moratoria de desalojo fue el primer paso correcto, pero tenemos que ir más allá. Exigimos lo siguiente, de inmediato:

1- LA SUSPENSIÓN DE PAGOS DE RENTA Y UTILIDADES AHORA: El Gobernador Murphy ya suspendió los pagos de hipoteca por tres meses y el siguiente paso debe ser que suspenda los pagos de renta y utilidades.

2- EXTENDER LA MORATORIA DE DESALOJO/EJECUCIONES HIPOTECARIAS Y ELIMINAR LOS VACÍOS: El Tribunal de Inquilinxs/Propietarixs esta cerrado temporalmente y hay una moratoria de desalojo por dos meses después del estado de emergencia, pero el Gobernador Murphy debe extender la moratoria de desalojo y eliminar todos los vacíos (incluyendo una moratoria para la presentación/incio de procesos de desalojo, cualquiera y todas las facturas por pagos tardíos, etc.)

3- RECLAMAR NUESTROS HOGARES: Necesitamos hogares y servicios seguros para le gente actualmente sin hogar. La gente de Nueva Jersey que vive hombro a hombro en refugios están en muy alto riesgo de contraer COVID-19.  

4- INVERTIR EN HOGARES PARA TODXS: Finalmente, necesitamos financiar robustamente y administrar un programa permanente de asistencia para la renta para toda la gente de Nueva Jersey, independientemente de su estado de documentación.
