We are inviting you to raise money to reunify families separated at the border by holding a Community Cookout with your friends, family and neighbors on the weekend of August 4-5. We are building community and liberating families at the same time!
You can host a private cookout with just people you know or a public cookout that allows neighbors to join in too. Or you can join an event that someone else is organizing. That is all up to you. The map only shows public events.
Trump’s executive order from June jails entire families indefinitely and does nothing to reunite families that have already been torn apart. Children are still being kept in cages. They are being traumatized, plain and simple. It's time to take concrete action to reunite families.
On both Saturday August 4th and Sunday August 5th, Families Belong Together and People's Action are inviting activists to hold Families Belong Together Community Cookouts.
Trump was moved to change his family separation policy because of our collective public pressure. He lost support from his base on this moral issue. There is an important and untold story about the resistance to Trump’s agenda in small towns and rural communities across the country. A lot of people who live in communities that Trump won in 2016 are people who are standing with migrant families today. We need to get this story out.
Community Cookouts will be a chance to connect with each other, reflect about why family is so important, learn about what we can do collectively to keep families together and free, and take concrete action.
That's why we're trying to organize 100 Community Cookouts in small towns. You can help. We are asking you to bring together friends, family and neighbors to raise money and help migrant families get out of detention and reunited with their children.
Some people are gathering in their own backyards. Others are cooking out for justice in parks or congregation parking lots. Some will be big, others more intimate. All are important.
The money raised at Community Cookouts will be used to reunite families. Funds will help families post bond for their release from detention and to pay for travel that will bring families back together.
Thank you for taking action to liberate and reunite families!
