Got a friend who’s socialism-curious, but you're not sure how to explain? Have questions about socialism yourself, but were too afraid to ask? Just looking to find a way to quickly answer when people ask, “but isn’t socialism, like, bad?”
Join Flatbush DSA’s Socialist Night School at our next three meetings as we read and discuss The ABCs of Socialism! This “slim, accessible, inexpensive, irreverent introduction to socialism by the writers of Jacobin magazine” will ground our discussion of what socialism is, what it isn’t, and what it can be for us here in Flatbush. The digital text is available for free at Jacobin, and physically for $12 at Verso. At the first two meetings we will discuss parts 1 and 2 of the book, and on the third, we will be joined for an author Q&A by Bhaskar Sunkara, editor of the volume, and of Jacobin magazine.
The ABCs of Socialism contains the answers to questions like "Will socialists take my Kenny Loggins records?” from fantastic socialist writers including Flatbush DSA's very own Chris Maisano ("Isn't America already kind of socialist?"). You are encouraged to attend Socialist Night School if you've read all, some, or none of the assigned reading, and these sessions present a great opportunity to invite a friend new to socialism, Flatbush DSA, or both!
