Our goal is to send 60,000 digital and mail comments to HUD opposing this proposal. In order to do that, we need to educate each other & get together with friends and family to submit comments.
Sign-up for upcoming virtual & in-person events! We must protect our neighbors, keep families together, and prevent more people from being forced into homelessness.
CONTEXT: In another desperate bid to blame immigrants for their own policy failures, Trump and HUD are trying to kick “mixed status” immigrant families out of public and subsidized housing.
Today, households with eligible and ineligible members (such as undocumented people) can live together, but ineligible members don’t get government subsidies. In fact, they pay more in rent and help fund more affordable units.
HUD’s proposed rule would change decades of policy designed to KEEP FAMILIES TOGETHER AND HOUSED by evicting undocumented household members, even though they pay full rent. It will rip 20,000 families apart (over 200,000 people) and push them toward eviction and homelessness.
It’s cruel, costly, and counterproductive—kicking 37,000 citizen children to the curb during a housing crisis and wasting millions on red tape instead of keeping people housed.
