#GradTaxWalkout and #SaveGradEd is collaborating with several national organizations (see below) to protest the tax bill on a larger scale. We, the graduate students of America, are of course still protesting the removal of 117(d); while the senate bill doesn’t currently contain the tuition waiver tax, it can return during the reconciliation process, which should occur in the next two weeks. To become even more visible, we have decided to invite ALL opposed to the GOP tax bill to unite in protest. We are planning a national day of action for THIS SATURDAY (December 9th). We are asking you to organize a local MARCH at noon wherever you are. Please redirect to our new page and associated events:
•Sign our petition (I know you’ve signed a lot of petitions already, it takes a few minutes, sign them ALL as we will be consolidating them and taking them to Capitol Hill)
• Sign the Open Letter - this is a continuation of the campaign that Harvard folks have already gathered almost 3,000 signatures for. We need a big push to get as many signatures as possible on this, and at the right moment, DC area grads will deliver a physical copy to as many congressional offices as possible
• Interested in fighting the bill but don't see an event near you , sign up here to keep informed!
What can I do? • Go to the Students & Workers for Tax Justice page and join the fight this Saturday! • Write Op Eds to your local newspapers and letters to the editor opposing this bill • Demand a course of action from your administrators – students have been tapping “what’s the backup plan?” on door and requesting meetings to ask how the taxation of tuition waivers will be addressed.
We are collaborating nationally with:
March for Science Americans for Tax Fairness
And with local organizers from:
The Women's March Working America Socialist Alternative The International Socialist Organization
