Join the Labor Network for Sustainability and the Transit Equity Network in fighting for a fully funded public transportation system that our communities need!
What is Transit Equity Day 2025?
Every year on February 4, a network of transit rider unions, community organizations, environmental groups and labor unions organize Transit Equity Day–a national day of action to commemorate the birthday of Rosa Parks by declaring that public transit is a civil right. Rosa is an iconic figure of the civil rights era who chose the tactic of refusing to give up her seat on the bus to demand an end to segregation in the Montgomery, Alabama, transit system. We make the connection to this act of resistance to highlight the rights of all people to high-quality public transportation run on clean/renewable energy.

What’s at stake for Transit in in 2025?
Now is more important than ever for us to come together and fight for a massive investment in public transit in the county. For our planet, for our economy, and for our communities. In 2025, we must win fully-funded operations and services. Good service drives equity, cools the climate, provides good union jobs, and strengthens our local economies.
At LNS, we believe in the power of workers to fight not only to fight for better working conditions, but to also lead the fight for stronger and healthier communities. That’s why this year, we’re asking workers- operators and riders alike- to join the fight and share how important public transit is for everyone. Union workers operate our public transit system and union workers use transit every day! Expanding public transit creates good union jobs and is critical to making our communities more affordable and liveable.
If you’re a worker and are willing to share your story about why you use public transit and why you support investing more in transit operations, email us at info@labor4sustainability.org.
What if there isn’t an event near me?
Don’t see an event near you? People will be registering their actions over the next few months, but if you want to know if there are folks in your area who are already advocating for public transit, reach out to bakari@labor4sustainability.org. Or you can host your own event! Get together with other transit riders, workers, and environmental groups in your city and fight together for fully funded public transit.
