Tucson DSA Book Club: The "S" Word: A short history of an American Tradition..Socialism
With the rise of socialism among political candidates all across the country, the capitalist classes have fought back with an age-old claim: that socialism is “un-American” or doesn’t belong in the United States.
Of course, that’s nonsense. The history of workers standing up for their rights predates the founding of the United States (Literally! The first documented labor strike was held by tailors in 1768!). While our country’s government and leadership have fought back against socialism at every step, we have long been curious about an ideology that helps the many, not the few.
Tucson DSA Book Club is reading The "S" Word by John
Nichols this July. We'll meet in-person to discuss the work at the
Martha Cooper Library learning space. No need to finish the whole thing —
just come with what you have.
Prior reading or prep: Contact us HERE to join the Book Club and gain access to our content if you have not already!
Whether you're brand new to DSA or a seasoned organizer, there's something here for you. Come ready to engage.
Note: The zip code of our event is not necessarily the actual event location while we iron out the final details.
