We warmly invite you to a special hybrid gathering in Hamburg on Thursday, 26 February 2026 – the tenth anniversary of UBIE's official registration as a Belgian AISBL.
As agreed at our December 2025 General Assembly, we want to learn from one of the most significant UBI campaigns in recent years: the Hamburg Referendum Initiative. Despite not achieving majority support at the final referendum, the Hamburg campaign successfully mobilised thousands of citizens, generated substantial media coverage, and sparked genuine political debate on basic income in Germany's second-largest city.
For UBI activists across Europe, this represents an invaluable learning opportunity. How did they bring the initiative from Berlin to Hamburg? What strategies proved most effective in activating local communities? What lessons can inform future democratic UBI initiatives across the continent?
