350 Perth Accelerate Screening & 1.5 degrees forum

Start: Sunday, February 24, 2019 2:00 PM

With the IPCC’s new report demanding drastic action to halt global warming to 1.5°C, every Australian must step up and fight against fossil fuel influence in our parliament and for a cleaner, greener future.

When author and environmental activist, 350.org co-founder Bill McKibben, visited Australia in 2018 for the Accelerate Climate Action tour, 350.org filmed him at the world’s biggest coal port at Newcastle, diving at a seriously degraded Great Barrier Reef, at town halls and business lunches around Australia as he explained the gravity of the climate change situation – and what we can do about it.

350 Australia has now produced and released a new film, called Accelerate, to explain how ordinary people can take action. The movie shows how, when working together, people can fight for no new fossil fuel projects, push for a fast and fair transition to 100% renewable energy, and ensure not a dollar more goes to dirty energy.

Join us for a screening of Accelerate on Sunday February 24, at 2pm in the big hall of the Uniting Church in the City, as it is an important call to arms for climate action. Directly after the screening, we will give the stage to a few inspiring speakers, who will talk about the science behind the IPCC report and about transforming communities into sustainable ones.

Speakers already confirmed:

- Professor Peter Newman, from the Curtin University Sustainability Policy Institute and co-author of the IPCC report

- Aaron Tuckey, Research Assistant on Climate Change Leadership

We will provide snacks and drinks and we will also discuss how you can get more involved with community action on climate change in light of the Federal election coming up in May 2019.
