350Dallas: DART Electric Bus Ride

Start: Saturday, July 28, 2018 8:45 AM

In lieu of our regular monthly meeting we have arranged a field trip!

DART is rolling out new electric buses (http://dartdallas.dart.org/2018/01/10/dart-demos-new-proterra-zero-emission-all-electric-buses/)! We are getting an exclusive ride on and learn about the new bus.

DART has changed some of the logistics for our field trip on Saturday. As planned, we will still be meeting at Mockingbird Station at 8:45a. Instead of hopping on the electric bus there, we will be riding down to the Dallas Convention Center together on the DART light rail (also electric). DART will be paying for our ride on the rail to the convention center. At the convention center, we will see and learn about the electric bus and charging station. We'll then get our ride on the electric bus through downtown ending up at the Dallas Farmers Market (https://dallasfarmersmarket.org/).

This wasn't as it had originally been planned, but, unfortunately, due to DART scheduling and other issues, DART had to change the event slightly. Not to worry, though, we'll still learn about and get our ride on the electric bus, and get a free ride on the DART rail from Mockingbird Station to the Dallas Convention Center, escorted by the DART representative. And on the same schedule.

Here's the itinerary:

8:45 a.m. Gather at upper level of DART Mockingbird Station. There will be someone there with a sign indicating our group and checking folks in that RSVPd. As it gets closer to our departure time, we will move down to the lower level, so we are ready to get on the train departing at 9 a.m. You don't need to buy tickets, our ride will be covered by DART.

9:00 a.m. Train departs Mockingbird Station, hopefully, with all the field trip attendees on board ;).

9:20 a.m. Arrive at Dallas Convention Center Station where DART representative will talk about their electric buses and the charging station there.

9:30 a.m. Hop on board the electric bus, and ride from the Dallas Convention Center to DART Pearl Station (for convenience of those who only have a very short time available and can't wait until after the rest of the group activities to ride the light rail back to Mockingbird Station; your ride back to Mockingbird Station is on your own dime). If you want to participate in the Farmers Market activities - further learning/discussing electric transportation/climate actions, eating, visiting, exploring, just stay on the bus with us.

9:45 a.m. Arrival of electric bus at Dallas Farmers Market, where the bus will be on display to the public, along with other DART info, etc. until noon.
We will be free to look more at the bus and DART info, walk around and check out the Farmers Market.

Join some of us at the Mudhen restaurant ( http://www.mudheninthe.net/) at the Farmers Market for brunch or refreshments (your own dime) and discussion and socializing.

When the DART bus display at the Farmers Market is over at noon, our DART representative will be heading back to the Pearl Station on the noon bus headed that way, and will escort anyone still left who wants a free ride back to Mockingbird Station with him. Otherwise, the fare for the DART train back is at your expense ($2.50).

Regarding your return to Mockingbird Station (on your own schedule):
FYI - The first DART D-Link bus departs from the Farmers Market at 10:45a going east/north towards the DART Pearl Station, but it's not a long walk if you want to do that earlier. The Deep Ellum Station is also close by. Both the Pearl Station and Deep Ellum Station are about 20 minute walks from the Farmers Market.

Schedules of D-Link buses to the DART Pearl Station: http://www.dart.org/schedules/s722ea.htm. Be sure to tell the bus driver you want to get off near the DART Pearl Station.
There's general info about the D-Link buses at http://www.dart.org/dlink/dlink.asp.

If you need to reach us that morning you can call or text Molly Rooke at 214-0762-3163.

There's limited seating, so sign up now so you don't miss out!

[If you sign up and change your mind or are not able to make it, please email us (this system doesn't let you un-RSVP) so we can open up your seat for someone else.]
