Our speaker will be Julia Cohen, Co Founder and Managing Director of Plastic Pollution Coalition.
Julia has three decades of experience in working with a wide range of governmental, entertainment and non profit groups. She serves on the U.S. Movement Support Team of the Break Free From Plastic movement, and so much more-- a list too long to write here. She is the recipient of the Leadership Award in Clean Energy & Solutions.
Julia is a leader in the fight to end plastic pollution worldwide. We are thrilled to have her present during our Plastic Free 30 day challenge this year
Some key points of Julia's presentation will be
- Plastics have been linked to myriad serious health issues, such as autoimmune diseases, cancers, infertility and reproductive issues, metabolic illnesses like obesity, neurodegenerative problems like Alzheimer's disease, and much more
- Microplastics and nanoplastics have been found throughout human bodies
- Solutions to plastic pollution exist today—and must be implemented on a systems level to meaningfully stop the problem—this includes a strong plastics treaty that cuts and curbs plastic production and eliminates harmful plastic chemicals
- Individuals can take action to reduce their exposure to harmful plastics by engaging in plastic-free habits with plastic-free materials
- Avoid false solutions like plastics recycling—plastics were never designed to be recycled
